USA Taekwondo Referee Seminar
USA Taekwondo Referee Seminar

Location: TBA, Anchorage

Cost is $50

Topics covered in this seminar include:
1) Referee Purpose & Core Values
2) Kyorugi Scoring Criteria for Corner Judges
3) Hand Signals for Center Referees
4) Match Scoring and Officiating with Volunteer Athletes
5) Sport Poomsae Scoring Criteria
6) Creative Poomsae, Kyukpa & Weapons Scoring Criteria

Referees certified for poomsae earlier this year, are already qualified to judge poomsae & other creative events at the Alaska State Championship on April 17 & 18. Taking this seminar will make you eligible to referee kyorugi at the tournament and therefore provide you with even more credit towards your next referee rank promotion. These opportunities are not available all the time, especially in Alaska, so I hope to see many of you participating not only in the seminar but in the Alaska State Championship as well. The seminar will be a great introduction for first time referees to see the full spectrum of judging as well as a valuable opportunity for our more senior officials to lend their experiences and perspective from the most recent National Championships.

Requirements for First Time Applicants

The seminar requirements are the same as in previous years. Applicants for referee certification MUST:

1) Be 16 years of age or older,
2) Have earned 1st degree black belt or higher, (must submit a copy of Dan certificate at seminar)
3) Be USA Taekwondo athlete/coach/referee member, (must submit a copy of proof of membership)
4) Wear dobok, and
5) Pay seminar fee to "USA Taekwondo" ($50 by Money Order, Cashier's Check, or Credit Card only; Cash or Personal Checks will NOT be accepted under any circumstance).

Due to many recent changes in the Competition Rules, Coaches and Athletes are welcome to audit the course free of charge in order to offer everyone the opportunity to learn and discuss the new rule implications on Alaska Competition.

Paper applications will not be offered, but rather registration will be available through USA Taekwondo's Hang-A-Star website at www.usat.hangastar.com

Please contact me directly by email or phone at 907-982-7256 if you have any questions regarding the referee seminar.
